Alliance to Feed the Future Salutes Importance of “Farm to Fork” on Ag Day

Alliance Membership Grows by 70 Percent in its Debut Year

(Washington, D.C., March 7, 2012) — The Alliance to Feed the Future today urged groups all across the nation to join in the celebration of Agriculture Day on March 8 and recognize the significant contributions modern agriculture and food production make every day to the quality of life enjoyed by all Americans.

“On Ag Day 2012, it is more important than ever that American consumers understand how their food is produced and the role modern agriculture plays in providing safe, affordable, and nutritious food,” said Dave Schmidt, President and CEO at the International Food Information Council, which coordinates the Alliance.  “The Alliance was launched a year ago to help build understanding of the real story of modern food and agriculture and an appreciation for the role farming, production, distribution and consumption play in modern America,” We are proud that in less than one year, our Alliance has grown from 52 to 89 members, an increase of 70 percent.”

The members of the Alliance to Feed the Future share this common goal and span all sectors of the food value chain, from farmer organizations and commodity groups to industry, professional societies and academia, in a coordinated effort to tell the true story of modern food production.  The Alliance to Feed the Future website (www.alliancetofeedthefuture.org) is home to an assortment of hundreds of helpful resources and information regarding modern food production from farm to fork.
